has distinguished himself as one of the leading American cellists of the younger generation, having performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe. He made his solo debut at age nine, with the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra. A First Prize winner in numerous national and international competitions, Robert deMaine became, in 1990, the first cellist ever to win San Francisco’s prestigious Irving M. Klein International Competition for strings. Previous distinctions have included First Prizes in 1991 from both the Saint Louis Symphony Young Artists Competition and the American String Teachers Association New York Competition. Robert deMaine has been a frequent guest artist at the Aspen and Marlboro Music Festivals, Mexico’s San Miguel de Allende Festival, and the Heidelberg Castle Festival in Germany. He has collaborated with such pianists as Emanuel Ax, Claude Frank, Anton Kueti and violinists Pamela Frank, Felix Galimir and Gil Shaham as well as the Beaux Arts Trio, Cleveland, Juilliard, Emerson and Mendelssohn String Quartets. In 1996, he made a highly acclaimed debut with New Zealand’s Auckland Philharmonic. Mr. deMaine’s performances have also been seen and heard worldwide through national and international broadcasts and telecasts.
