Daniel Domb, Cello
"Catches fire when he plays; his communication with the audience is electric."
                                                                        - San Francisco Chronicle

Daniel Domb’s outstanding achievements as soloist, teacher and principal cellist have earned him a place as Canada’s pre-eminent cellist. He has appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony, the Boston Pops, the Toronto Symphony, the New York Philharmonic and the Cleveland Orchestra, as well as given recitals in Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Concertgebouw. Daniel began his studies at the age of 11 with Paul Tortelier in Israel and Paris, and a few years later was chosen by Leonard Bernstein to appear with the New York Philharmonic. After studying with Leonard Rose at The Juilliard School, he earned a Masters Degree at age 21 and became a professor at the Oberlin Conservatory that same year. After further studies with Gregor Piatigorsky, Daniel became acting principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and a few years later, came to the Toronto Symphony as Principal Cellist in 1974. Since then, he has continued his solo career, performing with orchestras and in recitals, and has made dozens of solo appearances with the Toronto Symphony, both at home and on tour. He was featured on the recently released Classics for Kids, an educational CD for young musicians.
